Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 June 2026
Fernweh Charge takes your privacy seriously. This page describes the personal data we process when you use the app and the legal basis for doing so. In short: your location stays on your device, we operate no user accounts, and we use no analytics or tracking frameworks.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller within the meaning of the GDPR is David Moeller Apps, Korte Lijnbaanssteeg 1-4435, 1012 SL Amsterdam, Netherlands. Email: fernweh.app@icloud.com. Full provider details and the trade-register entry are available in the Imprint. /impressum
2. What data we process
We process as little data as possible. Specifically:
- Location data β only on-device, used to centre the map on your surroundings. Your location is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.
- HTTP requests to our backend server (charge.fernweh.world) to load the national charging-station price snapshot. These requests carry your IP address (technically unavoidable), which is also processed transiently to enforce rate limits (abuse prevention).
- Device integrity β production builds authenticate with Apple App Attest. The backend stores a pseudonymous per-device key identifier solely to block abuse; we cannot link it to your identity.
- No accounts, no cookies, no trackers, no analytics frameworks. There are no user profiles.
3. Legal basis
Processing is based on:
- Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR β legitimate interest in operating the app and providing its core function (displaying charging prices).
- Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR β legitimate interest in protecting the service from abuse (Apple App Attest device check and request rate limiting).
- Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR β your consent for location access. You may withdraw this consent at any time via iOS Settings; the app continues to work but will no longer auto-centre the map on your position.
4. Processors / Third parties
We use the following service providers to operate Fernweh Charge:
- Apple Inc. β App Store distribution and App Attest (device-integrity attestation). Apple privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
- Hetzner Online GmbH β backend hosting on a virtual server (including the self-hosted Postgres database for the charging-station dataset). Data residency: Germany (EU). https://www.hetzner.com/legal/privacy-policy
- Federal Highway Research Institute (BAst) β source of charging-station price data via Mobilithek (public open-data portal, CC0 1.0 Universal). No personal data processed.
5. Retention
We do not store any user-related data on our servers. Backend request logs (which include the IP address) are written to the server's container log and retained for at most 30 days for operational and security purposes; they contain no personal content beyond the IP address.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection. Because we keep no accounts and persist no user-related data, these rights are largely satisfied by the app's architecture in practice.
Supervisory authority: the controller is established in the Netherlands and is supervised by the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, https://autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl). As a user in Germany you may also contact your competent state data-protection authority.
